ALGIERS – The Minister of Hydraulics, Taha Derbal, indicated, Tuesday in Algiers, that it was essential to promote the efforts of the State and the volume of investments made in the hydraulic sector, by ensuring a service stable and regular public water supply.

Speaking at a national gathering of executives from Algerian Waters (ADE), on the occasion of the 23rd anniversary of its creation, Mr. Derbal declared: “it is essential to promote the efforts of the State and the volume of investments made to provide the best living conditions for citizens and guarantee a stable and regular public water service.

In this sense, he added that the management of the public water service in our country, with its vast extent, requires “the vigilance and perseverance of all, in order to provide a public service that meets the expectations of citizens who expect many of us to ensure permanent and regular water distribution.

The minister, who spoke in the presence of several members of the Government as well as heads of various public institutions, in addition to ADE executives, also indicated that in the face of social and economic developments, the hydraulic sector is “working to keep up with these developments by relying more on modern technologies, remote control, and developing the knowledge and experience of water workers.”

In this regard, he welcomed the contribution of several ministries and institutions in supporting the sector to move towards the digitalization and modernization of commercial services offered by water companies, affirming that the partnership agreements that ADE is preparing to conclude with several companies reflecting the company’s desire to improve the quality of its services.

Referring to the national seawater desalination program, decided by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, which provides for the construction of large desalination stations, the minister highlighted the contribution of the Ministry of Energy and Mines, in the realization of the program, noting that the realization of this program which requires “the mobilization of all resources to carry it out, within the allotted deadlines and with the required quality”.

For his part, the Minister of the Knowledge Economy, Startups and Micro-enterprises, Yacine El-Mahdi Oualid, welcomed the cooperation between his department and that of hydraulics, ensuring that cooperation agreements enable skills Algerians to provide solutions to the hydraulic sector.

He also added that those who bring innovative solutions contribute to efforts to ensure water security.

Signature of three agreements to modernize the management of water services

During this meeting, organized under the slogan “Challenges and perspectives of Algerian waters”, three conventions were signed between the ADE and various organizations with the aim of “strengthening cooperation in the application of technologies digitalization and modern technologies for the management of public drinking water services.

This is an agreement signed with the Bank of Agriculture and Rural Development (BADR) to facilitate banking services, for the benefit of ADE workers.

Also, a second agreement was signed with the SARL “Basseer Technology for innovation” in order to develop an innovative technological platform to improve the management of irrigation installations managed by the ADE.

The third agreement was signed with the company “Slick Pay” to allow ADE customers to pay their invoices via a new secure and fast electronic payment platform.

According to a press release given to the press, the total turnover of ADE in 2023 reached 35.64 billion dinars, the amount also represents the recovery over the same period.

During the same year, the company ensured the supply of drinking water to 30.6 million customers, with a production of drinking water estimated at 1.99 billion cubic meters.

During the same year, no less than 8.11 million m3 of water were recovered and more than 292,700 leaks were repaired across the country.

Also more than 25,500 illicit and illegal connections were eliminated, which made it possible to recover approximately 4.6 million m3, consumed illegally.

The ADE, which employs 36,463 workers, has more than 6.2 million subscribers.

During this gathering, around ten representatives of the ADE water professions were honored for their distinction in their tasks and missions.

Also, the first three ADE units (Souk Ahras, Jijel, M’sila) which worked to extend their coverage to ensure water supply to the different municipalities of their wilayas were honored.

According to the data provided, these same units benefit from mobile agencies to improve the quality of their public service.

In the same register, units of the ADE, among those which participated the most in the various awareness campaigns initiated by the company, and the 10 units which achieved “records” in the recovery of the company’s debts among its subscribers, were also honored.

In his speech, the Director General of ADE, Mustapha Rekik, noted that the company achieved “great successes in 2023, both in the development and improvement of services”.

With this in mind, he praised “all the skills of the company “for their dedication and self-sacrifice in the work and their desire to move forward”.

In this sense, Mr. Rekik affirmed “that there are still many challenges to overcome and objectives to achieve.”
