“Qualificar”, a Grupo Açotubo project focused on specific training in plants and related fields, has reached 100 manufacturing plants of companies in the sugar and energy sector in the country. The number was announced on the 6th anniversary of the program, created to reduce risks and minimize failures, ensuring greater returns.

Twenty training sessions were held in 2023, with another 25 scheduled for this year. The training will be offered to factory directors and managers, project specialists, maintenance and receiving personnel, among other areas directly impacted by materials purchased during the off-season. The project, currently under expansion, has been expanded to segments such as mining, pulp and paper, petrochemicals and firefighting for customers in the states of São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso do Sul and Goiás.

Training identified problems such as second-hand material and tampered documentation

Among the contents that have been most prominent in these six years are the main characteristics that guarantee the full traceability of steel materials; techniques for preventing the entry of adulterated materials into consumer companies; the quick prevention guide, in addition to real cases that demonstrate the need for qualified teams in entry inspections.

One of the main cases of the project was the result of an incident in which a pipe ruptured at the exact moment that the training was taking place. After the presentation, the plant’s maintenance and utilities manager invited the Açotubo specialist to check a 12” STD pipe that had suffered premature wear while carrying medium-pressure steam. The pipe had been installed 5 months ago and, in Açotubo’s view, should have remained intact for that application for at least 3 years. The specialist then concluded that, due to the circumstances, it could be a second-hand material that had been reconditioned or supplied with a wall that did not meet specifications.

As part of the reinforcement of Qualificar in 2024, Açotubo took the program to its stand at Fenasucro & Agrocana, which was held from August 13 to 16, in the city of Sertãozinho, São Paulo. In addition to the material that addresses how to complete the training, visitors had access to more information in an interactive way at a digital totem and direct contact with the technical team responsible for Qualificar.
