The forecasts for the e-commerce sector in Brazil in 2023 are encouraging. According to a survey carried out by the Brazilian Electronic Commerce Association (ABcomm), the e-commerce market should grow by R$ 185.7 billion this year. The survey also points out that the average ticket value may rise from BRL 247 in the previous year to BRL 470 for each purchase made, while the order projection is 395.1 million and the number of buyers will reach 87.8 million .
With advances in internet technology, in addition to the new habits acquired during the Covid-19 pandemic, e-commerce has gained an important space in the Brazilian market. Faced with the new reality of consumption, a fiercer market and increasingly demanding customers, online shopping has become a trend in Brazil and seems to be a one-way street for companies of all sizes and niches.
The latest data released by Retail X, on e-commerce in Latin America, indicate that in 2022 the country reached the highest growth on the continent. There were approximately $8.1 billion in sales year-over-year. The survey carried out by the German company Statista, points to Brazil at the top of the e-commerce ranking in the world, with a growth rate of 14.63% from 2023 to 2027.
The size of the growth in online orders significantly increases demand and draws the attention of specialists and companies operating in the field of logistics. According to the founder of Datafrete, a technology company specializing in freight management, Marcelo Soccol, companies need to look closely at the issue of logistics due to the large number of demands.
“E-commerce logistics is not just the delivery service, it goes far beyond that. It is a set of processes that range from stock planning, storage to the exchange and returns policy”, says the specialist.
Soccol also points out that the logistics process is capable of making a difference when it comes to a very competitive market such as online shopping today. “It is important to remember that logistics plays a fundamental role in the growth of a company. It is the area that is responsible for the whole path that a product takes, from the supplier to the final consumer”, he highlights.
Packaging sector grows due to increase in digital commerce
The packaging sector has grown beyond GDP in recent years, largely due to the increase in online sales in the country. According to figures from Empapel (Brazilian Association of Paper Packaging), the sector’s perspectives for 2023 are positive, with an estimated growth of 3% to 3.5%.
Responding to this increase, with the aim of adding more value to the consumer experience and differentiating itself from the competition, many companies are investing in personalized boxes. Many surveys claim that the quality of service is one of the main factors taken into account by consumers, including.
High expectations for the next four years
The proof that e-commerce has been popularizing at an accelerated pace is the data pointed out by the ABcomm survey, projecting that electronic commerce will continue to rise until 2027. The association study indicates that in 2024 revenues will be R$205 billion and of R$ 225 billion in 2025. For the years 2026 and 2027, the amounts should reach, respectively, the range of R$ 248 billion and R$ 273 billion.
All these numbers alert entrepreneurs and retailers to a challenge. It is increasingly necessary for strategies and plans to be developed to efficiently meet the large number of market orders, in addition to attracting consumers in a highly competitive scenario.
