Tomorrow, Sunday, March 31, Project Ms. Pa. is preparing a coastal clean-up action in a beautiful area of daily recreation, specifically on the beach of South Park.
The appointment is at 11 am at the NOP Swimming Pool, while those who participate should bring garden gloves, bags, water and a good mood.
But who are Project Kappa? The Ka. Pa. project is a volunteer group active in the city of Patras cleaning beaches and parks. Hence the name of the group! Ka.Pa means Clean Beaches, Clean Parks, Clean Patras.
As they say: “It was created in the boredom of the quarantine we experienced in the spring of 2020. We poured into the countryside and the beaches, since we mightn’t go anywhere else, and what we saw was garbage, lots of garbage!
Seeing this situation, we mightn’t remain indifferent and so we came up with an idea, which was simple! Let’s clean our common green spaces and beaches, a little bit each and as much as we can, so that we can enjoy the coasts and forests once more like when we were children!
The ‘idea’ of cleansing has always existed in us as an ideology. Even when the group was a group of three friends who following every swim in the sea we always cleaned the beach. Every time we cleaned someone always stopped to ask us if we were from the municipality or some volunteer group!
We were not a voluntary group, but seeing the interest of several of our fellow citizens in the same common goal, we became one!
Now Project Ka.Pa. counts more than 80 cleanings in various areas in the city of Patras, in its surroundings and outside of Patras, while the number of active members amounts to approximately 60 people.
Our goals are:
– continue to raise awareness and over time have less and less litter and clean up as many places as we can
– To contribute to the aesthetic improvement of public infrastructure through targeted urban interventions in the city
– to clean dangerous and invisible traffic signs from stickers and graffiti
– to clean graffiti from neoclassical and historical buildings
All together we can contribute to a better and more aesthetically beautiful city!”.
