Project E – NCsoft’s MMORPG Project E goes into production

Last year, NCsoft unveiled its Project E, a game that should share its universe with Throne and Liberty. The “global vision” of the project is completed and the graphic design of Project E goes into production.

At the start of last year, NCsoft announced the development of several projects – modest games aimed at diversifying its catalog, but also other larger titles. In the lot, we find in particular the Project E (this is a provisional code name), which we know is closely linked to Throne and Liberty and which should allow NCsoft to lay the foundations for a new weighty license.

Throne and Liberty and Project E are two different games, but they share the same universe: in the world of Novcrea, Throne and Liberty takes place on the western continent of Solisium (inspired by medieval Europe), when Project E is an oriental universe and will immerse the player on the continent of Laisak (adapted from the Korean Joseon dynasty).

The release of Throne and Liberty is scheduled for the next few months (the latest indiscretions evoke the third quarter of 2023) but at this stage, NCsoft has not yet communicated any launch date for Project E. Korean MTN nevertheless echoes an anonymous source “close to the matter” and understands that Project E has just entered production: the design phase would be completed and the developer would now be working on its realization and more specifically on the graphic resources of the game. Concretely, the “global vision of the world” (shared between Throne and Liberty and Project E) was carried out by the division Lightbox House at NCsoft. A handful of executives are now in charge of implementing it, led by Hyun Sil Kim – who has been with NCsoft for more than fifteen years.

It does not say the launch date of Project E but we understand that development is just beginning and that we should probably not expect a release for a while. We nevertheless retain that Throne and Liberty and Project E were designed to be “a Lineage new generation”: a new license (a new world) which will be available in several games – with the ambition for NCsoft to diversify its offer to be a little less dependent on its main Lineage license. Time will tell if this new world will experience the same popularity as Lineage, first with Throne and Liberty, then Project E.
