Indigenous children who survived a plane crash and 40 days alone in the Colombian Amazon jungle show a progressive improvement in their nutritional status, reported the hospital where they are recovering in Bogotá.

According to the most recent report from the Military Hospital, where the minors were taken following their rescue a week ago, in the last 48 hours “their evolution has been stable”, while treatment for infectious conditions and the search for “chronic infectious pathologies” due to the inhospitable nature of the area where they were found.

The part adds that “a progressive nutritional recovery has been achieved” and that it is necessary to keep them in isolation to avoid any other risk.

The multidisciplinary follow-up in several specialties is maintained with the commitment to achieve the recovery of the physical and mental health of the children, he concludes.

The children aged 13, 9, 5 and 1 survived the accident of a small plane in which they were traveling with their mother from the Araracuara area, where they lived, to San José del Guaviare, south of Bogotá, on May 1 .
