It was announced today that there was progress on implementing a differential exchange rate such as the “fruit dollar” for the complex situation that the producers of the Province are going through. In addition, the National Government will allocate 1,200 million pesos in assistance to small and medium-sized producers from Río Negro.
These big announcements were made this followingnoon during a meeting held by Senator Alberto Weretilneck together with the Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Nation, Juan José Bahillo, and representatives of the Argentine Chamber of Integrated Fruit Growers (CAFI) and the Federation of Fruit Producers of Río Negro and Neuquén.
This meeting served to analyze the harsh fruit situation that the region is going through, which drags a harsh crisis following the late frosts recorded in October and November last yearseriously damaging production.
Bahillo confirmed contributions of $1,200,000,000 for small and medium producers of Río Negro, through a revolving fund of the National Government in response to the emergency of the fruit complex.
The destination of these funds will be defined by a transversal table made up of national and provincial authorities and representatives of the producers.
Also, the problem of competitiveness of the sector was addressed and they analyzed the possible implementation for this season of a differential exchange rate of the “fruit dollar” type.
They maintain that this type of change, will allow to prop up the value that is paid for this primary production that is destined for export. In this sense, there was progress and there might be news in the coming weeks.
