The number of companies and entrepreneurs dealing with information technologies in Slovakia is growing. Last year, 23,061 of them operated in our country. Compared to 2021, this represents an increase of 2,360 entities, i.e. by 11.4%. It follows from the data of Dun & Bradstreet.
“Information technology is a very dynamically developing field. Over the past five years, the number of IT entities in Slovakia has grown by 38%,” said Dun & Bradstreet analyst Petra Štěpánová. As she added, while in 2018 there were 14,428 entities operating in this area in Slovakia, a year later it was 16,658 and in 2020 there were already 18,619 entities operating in the IT sector.
In the past year, Dun & Bradstreet registered a total of 12,586 legal entities on the IT market in Slovakia. 1,158 new entities were created and, on the contrary, 113 companies ended their activities. “In the case of natural persons – entrepreneurs, 10,475 of them worked in the IT field in Slovakia in the previous year. At the same time, 1,933 entrepreneurs started their activity and 764 ended it,” explained Štěpánová.
The Czech Republic has also recorded a growth curve in this area in recent years. According to Dun & Bradstreet, 57,346 entrepreneurs are doing business in IT in our western neighbors. The paradox is that the number of legal entities is lower than in Slovakia, because a record number of natural persons entrepreneurs work in Czech IT, a total of 44,836.
