Slovakia may lose at least a billion euros, if not more, as part of the recovery plan. This was said at Wednesday’s press conference by the vice-chairman of the Hlas – Social Democracy party, Richard Raši. According to Raši, the head of the recovery plan, Lívia Vašáková, also claims that the recovery plan needs to be crossed out, because otherwise we would lose a lot of money. If Slovakia does not carry out any reform, or milestone, then the next recovery plan process will automatically stop and no further payments will be received.
According to Raši, the business card of the current government in charge is the bungled recovery plan, the collapsing health care system, or subverted public finances. According to him, the recovery plan is a historic and unrepeatable chance for investments in the development of Slovakia. “We warn regularly that it can become a missed opportunity,” Raši said. According to him, the recovery plan is a big fiasco, especially within the healthcare sector and the investment department.
At the same time, the recovery plan does not allow Slovakia to change reforms and transfer funds between chapters or to the next years. A recovery plan is a contract and funds are tied to specific projects. If Slovakia wants to receive payment, it is necessary to prove that it will fulfill what it has planned.
The Slovak Recovery and Resilience Plan includes a wide range of investment and reform measures in 18 thematic components. It is worth 6.3 billion euros in the form of grants. Slovakia submitted it to the European Commission at the end of April 2021. It is part of the Next Generation EU tool. The goal is to overcome the consequences of the crisis caused by the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic and ensure greater resilience for the future. The Council of the European Union approved the Slovak recovery plan on July 13, 2021.
