Konstantinos Fousekis is a professor at the Department of Physiotherapy of the University of Patras, specializing in “Physiotherapy evaluation of the etiology of sports injuries”. He is also the director of the institutionalized Therapeutic Exercise and Sports Rehabilitation Laboratory of the University of Patras, while he has significant administrative experience as president of the Department of Physiotherapy, as a member of the Dean’s Office of the Faculty of Rehabilitation Sciences and as a member of the Senate of the University of Patras for the last 3 years.
He opened his papers in “Peloponnisos” and spoke regarding the rector’s elections.
What were the reasons that led you to the decision to become a candidate in the rector’s elections?
I nominated for the council of internal members of the University of Patras because I consider it the duty of all members of our University to contribute with all their strength to its further development. In addition, I personally believe that I have the experience and the will to contribute to the development of the Departments (Speech Therapy, Nursing, Physiotherapy) of the School of Health Rehabilitation Sciences (SEAH) and the University of Patras, in general. I am a primary professor and director of the Therapeutic Exercise and Sports Rehabilitation Laboratory of the Department of Physiotherapy, having served in high-responsibility administrative positions in the past. I was the chair of the Department of Physiotherapy and a member of the senate for the last three years, having worked successfully with many colleagues. My desire is to continue to offer to the public of our University with the aim of further strengthening those actions that have led to the conquests of recent years both for SEAU and for the entire University.
How would you describe your collaboration with the current rector Christos Bouras, and him personally?
My cooperation with the rector of the University of Patras, Mr. Christos Bouras, has been impeccable at all levels over the last three years. The current rector’s authority and senate of the University of Patras strengthened SEAU to an incredible extent, mainly through the transfer of the Departments of Physiotherapy and Speech Therapy to the Rio Campus. The transfer of the above Departments overall improved all their functions and especially their student-centered services-benefits and upgraded their research collaborations with scientists from other Departments of the University of Patras (Medicine, Polytechnic, etc.). In addition, Mr. Bouras, the rector’s authority and the FP senate strengthened the scientific potential of the SEAU Departments through new faculty members and, most importantly, supported all their actions.
How do you judge the work at the University of Patras to date?
In recent years, the University of Patras has made leaps of progress at a scientific, academic and student-centered level. The extroversion of our University was strengthened to an incredible extent and many academic synergies were developed with foreign institutions. All the Departments of the University took steps forward highlighting the dynamics of their members. Student-centered services were strengthened, facilities were improved, the student residence was remodeled and benefits and services were developed, which support our students on multiple levels. Our University excels on all assessment scales and ranks high in the production of scientific knowledge in many of the subject areas it treats. The above achievements are the result of the scientific completeness of the faculty members, the dedication of the people of the administrative services and the vision and efforts of the Senate and the rector’s authority of our University.
What is your personal vision and goals for the University of Patras
I strongly believe that the University:
– are his people
– must contribute to education, research, science, art and innovation,
– it must be a center of excellence, social sensitivity and interaction with the local community,
– must be a hub of high continuing education and training of graduates and professionals.
In the above context, I will fight with all my strength so that our University makes us proud every day for its achievements, its place in the international scene, its course and the spirit of cooperation and inclusion beyond the influences of outdated times. In particular, I would like to contribute to the further upgrading of the Departments of the Faculty of Health Rehabilitation Sciences, which are Departments with attractive study programs and have high-level professors and administrative staff. Our society needs high-level rehabilitation scientists and the Departments of our School can guarantee the “creation” of graduate scientists, who will contribute to improving the quality of life of our fellow human beings.
