If the technology is commercialized, it is expected that the diagnosis time and cost will be significantly reduced compared to the existing procedures that require genetic, colposcopy, and biopsy.

On the 14th, Kyung Hee University announced that Professor Kim’s thesis containing these contents was published in the international scientific journal ‘Sensors and Actuators: B Chemical.’

The key to the result of this study is that it is possible to selectively detect ‘cysteine’, a substance considered a biomarker for cancer diagnosis, in urine.

In the past, it was difficult to selectively detect cysteine ​​because its structure is similar to that of other biomaterials, but thanks to the ‘Fluorescent Probe’ developed by Professor Kim, cysteine ​​can be detected quickly and accurately.

The school explained that this technology can be commercialized at the current level as the diagnostic potential has already been confirmed in 1,700 clinical samples.

Professor Kim said, “We will continue to work hard so that it can be widely used for early diagnosis of cancer and follow-up following treatment.”
