Terrible scenes that take place in the community center of Garching in Bavaria: The professional boxer Musa Askan Yamak († 38) just wants to start the third round of his fight when he suddenly collapses and lies motionless on the ring floor.
The ring doctor, his supervisors and paramedics rush over and start with the first aid. The event is canceled, the fans have to leave the hall and the Munich player is taken to the hospital. The athlete died there as a result of a heart attack.
Spectators hindered medical care
But until the “WBF International Champion” might be cared for, there was great chaos. Family members and a select few fans removed the ring ropes and chairs, allowing access to the called ambulance. When the emergency workers arrived, they were “harassed and disturbed” by around 50 disturbed fans, according to the police.
“The paramedics were faced with turbulent scenes of emotionally charged fans and family members on site. To ensure the safety of the paramedics, we sent out a lot of patrols,” said a spokesman for the Munich police to “Bild”.
An eyewitness reports the opposite: “It wasn’t like that! The spectators gave first aid before the paramedics arrived and tried to save Yamak.” They were the ones who removed the ropes and made access easier for the paramedics. “The police were very aggressive. Yelled at us.” It has not yet been clarified whether the delayed start of resuscitation measures was the reason for death. (che)
