TIZI-OUZOU-Investments made and in progress in the field of renewable energies will make it possible to achieve a production of around 4 Gigawatts by the end of the current year or early 2025, we learned with the Commission for Renewable Energies and Energy Efficiency (CEREFE).

Present in Tizi-Ouzou as part of the national seminar on “the promotion of renewable energies as a strategy to guarantee energy security, in Algerian law”, organized by Mouloud Mammeri University and closed Thursday evening, the director of efficiency energy within CEREFE, Mourad Issiakhem, indicated to the APS that the objective of reaching a production of 4 gigawatts will be achieved by the end of 2024 or the beginning of 2025.

He recalled that Algeria has implemented an energy transition strategy from fossil energy to new and renewable energy aiming to achieve by 2035, thanks to renewable energy installations, a production of 15 Gigawatts.

The various renewable energy production installations already completed currently produce more than 600 Megawatts (MW). In addition and as part of this strategy there was the launch at the end of 2023 of two projects “2,000 MW” and “Solar 1,000 MW”, he recalled.

“CEREFE has made its assessment for the year 2024 and we have noted that the production base in Algeria for renewable energy is more than 600 Megawatts. With the projects which are launched (3 Gigawatts in total) by the At the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025 we will have an installation of around 4 Gigawatts,” noted Mr. Issiakhem.

The official who also discussed the valorization of waste for the production of biogas, indicated that Algeria has significant potential in this area with 197 Technical Landfill Centers (CET) which can be exploited to produce this type. of energy.

To this end, he recalled the first project launched in this context at the Oued Semar landfill (Algiers) where “colossal work was done by Algeria to rehabilitate this landfill with the construction of 127 wells. extraction of biogas for the production of electricity with the installation of a 637 kilowatt biogas engine,” he said adding that CEREFE “will work to duplicate this solution for the different CETs in Algeria.”

Addressing the issue of energy efficiency, the same official who indicated that energy consumption in Algeria increases annually by 4 to 5%, insisted during the seminar organized by the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences on the importance to rationalize energy consumption.

Citing some energy saving actions, including changing consumption behavior, he advised, among other things, to turn off the lights, cut off unnecessary ventilation, stop putting devices on standby, which will reduce of 10% this Energy consumption.

It is also important not to leave the phone charger plugged in because, even if it is not connected to the phone, it continues to collect electricity, he added, noting that the loss of energy is estimated. 95% when the charger is left plugged in permanently.
