Production increases by 3.4% in January 2022

The production of electrical energy increased by 3.4% at the end of the first month of 2022, following an increase of 1.8% a year earlier, according to the Department of Studies and Financial Forecasts (DEPF) under the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

This improvement is explained by the strengthening of the production of the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) by 23.7% (following -12.2%) and that of renewable energies relating to law 13-09 of 12.9% (following +12.6%), mitigated by the drop in private production of 2.4% (following +5.6%), specifies the DEPF in its economic note of March 2022.

Compared to its pre-crisis level (January 2020), the production of electrical energy has firmed up by 5.3%, said the same source. In parallel with this development, the volume of exported energy consolidated by 11.1% at the end of last January, to occupy a share of total national production of 3%. As for the volume of imported energy, it increased by 40.6% following a drop of 22.2% a year earlier, for a share of total energy called net of 1.4%, following 1% at the end of January 2021 and 16.4% at the end of January 2018. Taking these changes into account, net energy demand increased by 3.6% at the end of January 2022.

With regard to the consumption of electrical energy, it appreciated by 1.5% at the end of the first month of 2022, following a virtual stagnation at the same period of the past year. This change is due to the increase in sales of “Very high, high and medium voltage, excluding distributors” energy by 8.6% and those of low voltage by 1%, mitigated by the decline in those sent to distributors. by 2.8%.
