Producers of the La Banda sector will modernize the breeding and slaughter of guinea pigs with seed capital

Members of the Agricultural Association of Producers of the La Banda sector, in the district of Torata, will implement an innovative project to modernize 15 guinea pig sheds of 200 m2 and implement 4 slaughter centers with automatic peelers that will optimize their processes. In this way they will reduce their production costs and increase their income.

The project will be executed using the seed capital in kind, to which the association agreed following winning the project contest by call “Impulsa Torata” promoted by Southern Peru and the Torata Community Committee.

Said capital consisting of guinea pig skinning machines, feeders, gazaperas, pacifiers, PVC tubes, raschell mesh; among others, they were delivered by members of the Community Committee and Southern Peru in a public act that highlighted the benefits of the project that the Association will implement.

PRODUCTION AND PROFITABILITY

The initiative aims to improve the production and profitability of guinea pig breeding. Currently the partners face problems such as high costs in the production process, a high incidence of guinea pig mortality, high costs in their slaughter and low economic income of the partners, which limits reinvestment in their farms.

When the project is executed, it is expected to increase the production and profitability of the associates by 50%, reduce slaughter costs by 80%, reduce guinea pig peeling time by 80% and increase their economic income by 40%.

“This seed capital will be of great help for us to modernize our sheds and we will save 50% of labor that we use to peel the guinea pigs, now we will do it with the machines that were delivered to us, that will save us costs and time. Without a doubt, projects by call is a very good initiative of Southern Peru”, commented the project leader Ascencio Sosa Juárez.

The beneficiaries will provide a counterpart valued at S/ 26,000 that includes labor for the implementation of the sheds, in addition to hardware material and training for producers in alliance with other entities for articulation with markets.
