At the beginning of last year the specialists of ProCharger announced that had started working on different improvements for the eighth generation of the Chevrolet Corvette. Among them was his intention to place a supercharger at the heart of the 6.2 V8 used by this sports car ‘made in the USA’. Y now they have shown their progress throughout all this time.
This American specialist already offers two options for the new Chevrolet Corvette C8 to increase the power of this naturally aspirated engine. Remember that ever since the first mid-engined Corvette was launched, this 6.2 V8 has been offering 500 hp and 640 Nm of torque, figures more than enough to achieve brilliant benefits. But they should not be enough for many users.
The 6.2 V8 of the Corvette now adds a volumetric compressor
He has thought of them ProChargerwho offers two options called System HO and Stage II. Already the first of them adds a volumetric compressor, an air-water intercooler, the relevant CNC supports, a ProCharger air intake system and electronic management specially tuned to function like a Swiss watch.. Another of the peculiarities of the system developed by ProCharger is that they have changed the function of the button on the steering wheel that originally activates and deactivates the speed control. Now what it allows is to disconnect the function that the 6.2 V8 of the Chevrolet Corvette has to deactivate four of its eight cylinders.
The first of them has the peculiarity of offering a pressure of 1.3 bars, which allows it to reach 665 horsepower. Nevertheless the top option raises the intake pressure to 1.5 bar, so that the maximum power reaches 725 hp.
Prepare almost 20,000 euros for the ‘hardcore’ version
ProCharger has not revealed the new features of its creatures, but it is clear that they will be much better than the original ones. And if that wasn’t enough, this specialist offers different improvements for the sporty Corvette. These include an aluminum intake manifold, upgrades to the supercharger, a carbon fiber intake manifold…
As you might imagine, upgrades to the Chevrolet Corvette’s 6.2 V8 heartbeat don’t come cheap. Proof of this is that the most affordable option is priced at $17,498 (18,060 euros), while the most extreme goes up to $18,498 (19,100 euros). Additionally, these upgrades are available for Stingray-bodied Corvettes as well as Convertibles.
Two other ‘light’ options for the Corvette C8 engine
If adding at least 165 CV of power seems too much to you, know that ProCharger also propose two light alternatives for the Corvette’s 6.2 V8. Underneath is an upgrade called the HO Intercooled Tuner Kit Plus, which is similar to what the System HO offers, but without the electronics upgrade. On the other hand, there is the Intercooled Stage II kit, which adds to the above the special intake manifold.
