Problems persist with the water supply in this province. More than 50 thousand affected 2024-04-20 10:51:34

The situation with the water supply in several provinces of Cuba is becoming more unsustainable every day. Such is the case of the westernmost one, Pinar del Río. There, more than 50 thousand people do not have service due to several breaks in the three main systems.

“Currently, it is completely impossible to maintain the cycles established by each driver in the main city of that province.” So commented to the Cuban News Agency Robert Hechavarría Ramírez, director of the Aqueduct and Sewer Company.

The current situation is going through a crisis with several water pumps that are burned and without a short-term solution. By the way, the executive revealed that following the impact of Hurricane Ian, new equipment was installed but not all of it has withstood the test of time.

Hechavarría Ramírez recalled that there are no replacement parts for broken elements. There are also no ideal panels to protect the pumps. In other words, a solution is not estimated in the short or medium term.

Forced alternatives

The efforts to try to repair the broken pumps completely involve the company Aguas de La Habana. Right there, the wire necessary to wind at least two submersible pumping equipment with 20 and 36 inch conductors must be secured.

For example, the 36-inch conductor has two pumps out of service. Hence, the supply to the Hermanos Cruz popular council has been interrupted, especially to the upper parts, and the re-pumping of Fifth Street.

In the middle of this week, a pump and an engine arrived in the city of Pinar del Río from Havana.

Both were installed at the Fifth Street pumping station, a town made up of multi-family buildings. Meanwhile, the 20-inch conductor works with three pumps with five wells and the 30-inch one, with one less.
