The governor of Trentino, Maurizio Fugatti, has been reported by animal rights activists for “inciting a crime” following he ordered the bear to be shot. The lawsuit was filed on Saturday by the European Animal Welfare Party with the public prosecutor’s office in Trento.
Fugatti decided to kill the problem bear, even though there was no public safety emergency, since the animal protection organizations were ready to transfer the bear, known with the code JJ4, to other regions immediately in order to solve the public safety problem. “Although Fugatti was well informed regarding these proposals, he confirmed the decision to kill not only JJ4, but also two other problem bears,” lamented the European Animal Welfare Party.
