Informal workers are up to four times more likely to be poor than formal workers. The data comes from the International Labor Organization (ILO) and appears on the eighth page of the report “Panorama Laboral 2022: América Latina y el Caribe”. The document also shows that the year 2023 for Latin America and the Caribbean has been highly complex and uncertain due to a combination of crises that affect the labor markets.

Still according to the ILO document, on page 12, of the jobs created, between 40 and 80% are linked to informal occupations. In a regional informality rate, this situation reached 50% as it was before the pandemic.

In a broader panorama, at a global level, poverty situations also generate a warning, since, if the current rate continues, 575 million people will be living in extreme poverty in 2030, according to the United Nations report. (UN), “Times of crisis, times of change science for accelerating transformations to sustainable development”, na nona página.

For the UN, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) remain a fundamental agenda that meets the implementation of guidelines, especially at the corporate level. However, joint efforts are necessary, since, among the targets defined among the SDGs, only 15% are on track to be achieved by 2030, as pointed out in the chapter “Half-way to 2030 – progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals”from the report.

In view of this, the founder and main executive of the Latin American Quality Institute (LAQI), Daniel Maximilian Da Costa, draws attention to the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, celebrated annually on October 17th. He emphasizes that the subject is of interest to all sectors, especially the business world, and emphasizes that this vision requires a mutual effort.

“A sustainable future requires intensified efforts, especially when we list issues linked to the elimination of extreme poverty and discrimination. Therefore, leaders need to be prepared and certified, as well as prepare your employees for this cultureso that everyone can fully exercise their rights”, he concludes.
