Gameplay – The first points of the game did not go to the Titans as hoped, as Emil Marshall scored from outside for Düsseldorf. Shortly afterwards, however, debutant points were scored because Wes Dreamer stayed cool at the free throw line. The American got off to a good start and scored six points in the first four minutes. Returning player Koen Sapwell gave the “Elbriesen” their first lead a short time later with his three-pointer to make it 13:12. The newcomers Ragsdale and Kayser also scored their first points, meaning the score was 24:17 at the first break.

Daniel Kirchner kicked off the second period from the line. His two goals were followed by a layup from newcomer Adam Paige, who sent Düsseldorf into a timeout. The next highlight came from Lukas Zerner, who plucked a layup from Teichmann out of the air. Nevertheless, the defense crumbled a little and the guests were able to shorten the lead to 33:28. But Dreamer brought back a comfortable lead of 43:32 with five quick points.

The third quarter started with a monster dunk from Lukas Zerner. Kirchner followed shortly afterwards from outside and Dreamer’s 50:34 meant another timeout for Düsseldorf. The team from the Ruhr area scored again after that, but two long-range shots from Schmikale and newcomer Pablo Bertone equalized the small run. A reliable shooting percentage of 52% from the field for the home team gave them a lead of 15 points (68:53) before the last quarter.

Düsseldorf got off to a better start in the final period with four easy points. As a result, coach Fabian Strauß immediately called a timeout, which was followed by three more points from the Giants. Two points from Kirchner and another dunk from Lukas Zerner eased the situation for the time being. A three-pointer from Wes Dreamer was imitated by Daniel Kirchner and the two of them put the lead back to 16 points. Despite a better final phase, ex-Titan Grant Teichmann and his team were unable to turn the match around. The “Elbriesen” thus secured their first win of the season with an 84:74.

Head coach Fabian Strauß – “I’m obviously happy with the result, but I still made too many mistakes on the field. But we also have to be realistic. It’s no longer the team from the last three years that simply mastered many processes in their sleep. Now we have to repeat many things and realize that it takes a little more time. Fortunately, we can still rely on a few old players here and there.”
