Pro-Palestinian demonstrations in several major cities

In Rome, clashes broke out between protesters and the police, and tear gas was used to bring the situation under control. The demonstration was initially peaceful before a smaller group tried to move towards the center of the city, which was not permitted.

In London, protesters gathered in the Bloomsbury district on Saturday morning. A large police presence was in place. The atmosphere was tense as counter-demonstrators with Israeli flags also passed the group.

In Hamburg, Germany, 950 people held a peaceful demonstration with Palestinian and Lebanese flags. The participants shouted “stop the genocide”. Two smaller pro-Israeli counter-demonstrations also went smoothly, reports the German news agency DPA.

In Berlin, German police campaigned on Friday evening against what the DPA describes as anti-Israeli slogans and actions. Around 60 participated, among other things, in a vigil in support of the Palestinians. Around 400 police officers were present.

In Paris, several thousand gathered at the Place de la République with Palestinian flags and placards. There was also a commemoration in Times Square in New York, as well as in cities in Switzerland, South Africa and India.

In Copenhagen, several thousand walked through Store Kongensgade, among others, while some of them shouted “bye bye Israel”. According to the police, it all went smoothly.

It is expected that pro-Israeli commemorations of the one-year anniversary of Hamas’ attack on Israel on October 7 will mostly be held on Sunday, as many Jews still mark Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year.
