In recent weeks, incidents of pro-Khalistan slogans being painted on temples in Canada have heightened tensions between Hindus and Sikhs living there. A clear majority of Sikhs living in Canada are pro-Khalistan and they do not even bother to hide it. The Indian government is worried about this and its relations with Canada have been strained.
Three days ago, after pro-Khalistan slogans were written on the walls of a Swaminarayan temple, Chandra Arya, a pro-India Hindu member of the Canadian Parliament, raised the issue in the House and said that the government should take strict action in this regard.
Pro-Khalistan Nawaz Sikh leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannu called Chandra Arya MP angry. He has said that people like Chandra Arya should go to India. Gurpatwant Singh Panu is one of the pro-Khalistan leaders who are wanted by India and the government has also set a reward for their arrest.
Gurpatwant Singh Pannu has released a video asking Chandra Arya and his associates, like-minded people, to move to India where their views are accepted. In this video, Gurpatwant Singh Pannu said that a referendum on Khalistan is being held on July 28 in Calgary, Canada.
