The UGC Standing Council informed the court that research period cannot be considered as teaching experience. The court also asked the UGC to submit in writing what was said orally.

The court directed the Kannur University and Priyavarghese to give a written explanation in this regard. The court also allowed time for both of them to give explanations. With this, the case was adjourned for consideration following the Onam holiday.

Dr. who is a teacher in Thrissur Kerala Varma College. Priya Varghese was controversially given first rank in an interview last November just before the extension of VC Gopinath Ravindran’s tenure.
Joseph Scaria, a Malayalam teacher at Changanassery SB College, filed a complaint alleging that Priya Varghese did not have the minimum qualification of 8 years of teaching experience to apply for the post of Associate Professor. It was also alleged that the selection committee chaired by the Vice-Chancellor gave more marks to Priya in the interview without checking the research score and approved publications as per the 2018 UGC norms. Kannur University Vice-Chancellor, Priya Varghese and others are the opposing parties in the petition.
