Private order for detainees for alleged exploitation of minors

The First Court of Control, in matters of crimes once morest women, dismissed two of the three crimes for which they were charged.

Citizens arrested for alleged labor exploitation of 16 minors received a custodial order this Monday, September 12.

The First Control Court of the Criminal Judicial Circuit of Bolívar state, Puerto Ordaz extension, in matters of crimes once morest women, issued the measure.

Sources linked to the case revealed that the court dismissed the crimes of criminal association and human trafficking, according to the Organic Law once morest Organized Crime and Terrorist Financing.

The man and the woman were charged with the crime of trafficking in persons, established in the Law on Violence once morest Women and the Family, under the modality of promoting begging.

This crime has a sentence of 20 to 25 years; however, with the aggravating circumstance that the victims are children and adolescents, they can be deprived of liberty for up to 30 years.

The duo was transferred to the Chirica Police Coordination Center of the Municipal Police of Caroní.

They must wait 30 days to receive the closing statement and for the preliminary hearing to take place.

According to official information, two victims would have reported to uniformed officers at the traffic light on Las Américas Avenue, at the height of Torre Loreto II.

Presumably, two adolescents reported that they asked pedestrians and drivers for money, pointing out that citizens ordered them to carry out this activity in exchange for food.

Members of the community and fellow church members of the defendants approached the Palace of Justice on Monday to express their support.

With banners they highlighted that the citizen was dedicated to feeding street children.

“The court says that for giving food to a street child, he is considered worthy of a sentence and a promoter of begging,” they said.

They added that the mother of the 51-year-old woman suffers from senile dementia and remains in a wheelchair, so she helped the children at home.

The neighbors pointed out that there was not enough evidence to support the crimes and they hope that they will be released soon.

The man and the woman were captured by officials of the Municipal Police of Caroní in a residence in Carrera Medellín in the Villa Colombia urbanization, in Puerto Ordaz. The case was notified to the Thirteenth Prosecutor of the Public Ministry, in matters of protection of children and adolescents.
