According to the SNES-FSU, there is a shortage of at least one teacher in 48% of middle and high schools, two weeks following the start of the school year. A lack of teachers which also affects private lessons. Acadomia, the number 1 in educational support in France, is seeking to recruit 8,000 teachers this year.

Gabriel Attal was in a primary school in Tremblay-les-Villages, in Eure-et-Loir, on Friday for the start of the year assessments in the classes. The Minister of National Education presented measures to improve students’ mastery of writing. “A republican emergency”, according to him. For example, it offers a writing test in addition to reading for entry into 6th grade.

But the problem is that teachers are needed and there is a severe shortage of them two weeks following the start of the school year. On average, there is a shortage of at least one teacher in 48% of middle and high schools in France, according to a survey published by the SNES-FSU, the first secondary education union to denounce a scandal. A situation of shortage of teachers which also affects private lessons. Acadomia, the number 1 in educational support in France, is seeking to recruit 8,000 teachers this year.

A demand due to a drop in educational level

Want to pass on, expertise… Recruitment criteria are increasingly selective, because the profile of students is diversifying. But what explains such a need for teachers is the increase in demand due, among other things, to a drop in French educational levels. “Some parents feel the need to have, in addition to what is done in class, external help, whether for consolidation and support objectives or to aim for excellence, to go beyond the framework of what the establishment school can offer”, analyzes Romain Richy of Acadomia.

But the situation is not shared by all companies in the sector. Completeness and Kartable, for example, have not informed Europe 1 of similar difficulties. With a million students using it, France is the European champion in academic support. On average, a French schoolchild follows 40 hours of private lessons per year, which costs parents around 1,500 euros.
