A private jet went off the runway during its landing late in the followingnoon this Wednesday, December 13, 2023 and got stuck in the grass. The incident caused no injuries, but paralyzed the airport for several hours.
Operations resumed Wednesday evening at Geneva airport, closed for several hours because of a private jet which got stuck in the mud, the airport said on its website. Geneva airport is the second in Switzerland following Zurich and is a very important hub for the low-cost airline Easy Jet.
“Due to the bad weather in recent days, the terrain is in a state of very advanced humidity. A plane got stuck,” explained the airport around 10 p.m.
No injuries
Geneva and its region have experienced significant rainfall in recent days.
The track was reopened following the intervention of firefighters. The incident did not cause any injuries but has paralyzed the airport since around 6:30 p.m., forcing the suspension of all arriving and departing flights.
Due to anti-noise measures so as not to disturb residents near the airport, takeoffs and landings of non-commercial flights are authorized in Geneva between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m.
For commercial flights, takeoffs and landings are possible from 6 a.m. until half past midnight.
