Prison for a civil guard and another man for spying on Martinelli’s ex

Palma, Mar 16 (EFE) .- The judge on duty has ordered the prison communicated and without bail for one of the civil guards and another man, linked to a security company, who this morning have gone to court accused of being part of of a criminal group and spying in Mallorca on the partner of former Panamanian president Ricardo Martinelli.

The head of the Court of Instruction number 2 of Palma on duty has ruled that the other four arrested, three of them agents of the armed institute in the Balearic Islands, be released with the withdrawal of their passport and periodic appearances, the Superior Court of Justice of Palma has reported. Balearic Islands (TSJIB).

The Pantera operation has so far resulted in six people arrested, including the four agents, a worker from a security company and a private individual allegedly involved in these events, committed in 2020.

Five other people, including former President Martinelli, are being investigated for their alleged links to this criminal gang, which called itself Group Kougar, as reported by the Civil Guard in the Balearic Islands.

According to the investigators, the detainees, commissioned by Martinelli, organized a “perfectly organized” follow-up group made up of members of the Civil Guard, the Armed Forces and private security personnel, who were dedicated to informing the politician of the activities of his couple during their stay on the island.

Those arrested created WhatsApp groups to share the information of the surveillance of the victim, who came to put a tracking device in his car, according to the local newspapers Última Hora and Diario de Mallorca.

In July 2020, the victim reported to the Civil Guard the harassment and monitoring to which she was subjected by several people, who “would have come to endanger her physical integrity, as well as that of the people around her” .

Under the supervision of the Court of Instruction number 2 of Palma, the Civil Guard searched the homes of the six detainees, where technological components were seized to carry out surveillance and monitoring activities.

The agents also found diverse handwritten documentation related to the planning and organization of these espionage activities.
