What are the best ways you have found to take care of yourself?

Have a stable training routine and create a morning routine. My current routine is very relaxing in the morning and gets me going for the day. Once I’ve done it, I feel like I can do anything. Normally, I wake up, I make my coffee, I write in my journal for five minutes, I get ready to train, I go to exercise, I come home and take a shower. I feel like I have the whole day ahead of me and I’ve already done a lot for myself, both mentally and physically.

Furthermore, I try to meditate whenever I need it. Whenever I feel like my heart rate is a little high, and I’m a little anxious, on edge, and I can’t concentrate, I try to set 10 minutes to meditate at that moment and return to the earth to myself once more. I use the Balance app. I think that’s what it’s all regarding: learning the tools you need and the times you need them.

What was it like to live through the pandemic?

It was definitely a very contemplative time. I think before the pandemic I was running at a mile an hour. And be forced to stop and take stock of my priorities It changed my life a lot. I think when something like a pandemic happens, everything is put into perspective and you realize how short life is. You start to think regarding how you want to live it and what you might do differently. So I think, in many ways, I have reevaluated my priorities and started to sit with myself more.

How has isolation helped you learn things regarding yourself?

I’m not a person who is good at being alone, and I think that time I created a deeper relationship with myself in which I enjoyed my own company, and I knew myself and the things I liked to do in my free time. Very positive changes.

The time has come to find yourself and recognize your strengths and weaknesses.

How did you fill your free time in ways you didn’t before and that you now really enjoy?

I feel like in the most predictable ways, to be honest. I read more, I cooked, I watched movies I’d been wanting to see for a long time… I just did all the things I’d put off for so long. Because I can be very work-oriented, and I tend to put it above everything. I think at a certain point that it becomes very unhealthy. Now I try to prioritize relationships with my loved ones and time alone. I am learning to step back from work and evaluate my personal life and the things I want to do to grow as a person.

What is your five-minute diary like?

It’s a journal made with questions: each page has morning questions and evening questions, and it only takes five minutes to complete. These are fairly simple questions, but they immediately make you think regarding positive things. The five-minute diary was something I already did before the pandemic. I already did many of these things, but with confinement I do them more consistently and I have begun to appreciate and value their role in my life more.
