Kemperle: “Everyone deserves good care – regardless of age and income”

Vienna (OTS) Nursing Day is celebrated worldwide on May 12th, a day that honors the tireless work and indispensable contribution of nurses to society. In order to point out this and the need for high-quality care and support for older people, the ÖGB pensioners made a statement today in front of the Ministry of Social Affairs under the motto “In times of need, we are dead without care”.

“Like income, age should not play a role in care and support – everyone deserves the best possible care and support,” emphasizes ÖGB Federal Pensioners Chairwoman Monika Kemperle and at the same time calls for good working conditions for the nursing staff who give their best every day to ensure people’s health and well-being.

Ensure financing of high-quality care

Especially in recent years – due to the Corona pandemic – nursing professions have become increasingly important, especially once morest the background of demographic developments and the increasing need for nursing services. Nurses are under enormous pressure every day but do an outstanding job under difficult conditions. “The government must finally ensure sustainable financing. In addition, uniform and high-quality standards in the care and support sector must be guaranteed,” Kemperle continued.

More state instead of private

In addition to uniform standards and sustainable financing, Kemperle insists on the expansion of palliative care facilities, high-quality, comprehensive and affordable support offers for relatives and higher requirements for the training of 24-hour carers. “We know that the entire health and care sector has become a playing field for private companies that smell big money and are already making it. The government must take action once morest this and invest itself. This benefits both the people of all ages who need to be cared for and cared for, as well as the employees,” concludes Kemperle.
