Madrid, Oct 27 (EFE).- The Cortes Generales are already decked out to celebrate Princess Leonor’s swearing in to the Constitution next Tuesday for her coming of age, and while in the chamber today the presidential dais shines with velvets and tapestries and Steps and floral decorations have been placed outside, now only the installation of the gala canopy or canopy that will be located in the Congress atrium remains.

The services of the Lower House are finalizing the preparations for the solemn ceremony to be held by the Cortes Generales on October 31, in a joint session of the Congress and the Senate, and which will begin at 11:00 in the morning with the arrival of the Royal family.

The transformation of the Congressional chamber has ended with the dressing and decoration of the large presidential platform that has been installed this week and for which small scaffolding has been needed.

A high stage to which the kings, the princess and the infanta will access, along with the high authorities of the State, through a red velvet staircase with a golden railing, which has also been placed today in the hallway that gives access to the plenary hall.

In front of the almost 600 chairs that have been placed in the chamber to give greater capacity to deputies, senators and guests, you can see the large stage on which two large royal armchairs are already located, two other similar chairs for Leonor and Sofía, and a row of chairs with golden upholstery in which the high authorities of the State will sit.

The acting president of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, will foreseeably be placed near the daughters of the kings, where the judicial powers will also be, while the presidents of the Congress and the Senate will sit closer to Felipe VI and Queen Letizia.

In the center, a rectangular table covered with a red velvet mantle will house the Constitution on which the princess will swear, the same one on which her father swore.

National Heritage has brought this furniture along with the same tapestry and the same carpet from the Royal Tapestry Factory that was also placed at the swearing-in of the then Prince Philip and during his proclamation as king.

The sound technicians have carried out tests throughout the morning to ensure that everything works correctly. To the Desk room, where political spokespersons usually make statements, a copy of the 1978 Constitution similar to the one that Leonor will use for her oath has been moved.

The princess will swear on the same copy in which her father took the oath when he turned 18 on January 30, 1986, a replica of the manuscript written by the pendolist Luis Moreno and to which, according to parliamentary sources, the constitutional reforms referring to the Article 13 – which deals with the rights of foreigners – and Article 135, which introduced zero deficit in public administrations as a principle of budgetary stability.

At the moment, in the vicinity of Congress, all that remains is the placement of the canopy, a gala canopy from the Royal Tapestry Factory that arrived at Congress today but will be placed on Monday. A unique piece with more than a century of history and which decorated the Congress atrium for the first time in 1902 on the occasion of the swearing-in of King Alfonso XIII when he came of age.EFE
