Princess Lalla Hasnaa inaugurates the urban exhibition “Rabat, a heritage of humanity”

Princess Lalla Hasnaa, President of the Foundation for the Safeguarding of Cultural Heritage in Rabat, inaugurated, on Sunday in Bab El Bahr Square, the urban exhibition “Rabat, a heritage of humanity”, in celebration of ten years of the inscription of the capital of the Kingdom on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

This exhibition, which proposes to rediscover the registered heritage of the city of Rabat with another look, aims to raise awareness of the great history of the capital which has been stratified in its monuments, its town planning, its landscape and its tangible and intangible heritage.

She thus proposes to revisit this trajectory and this heritage through new photographs, the history of the places, the visits of the great men and women of history, to change the collective perception of the places and forge a consciousness that encompasses almost two millennia. of history.

The Foundation, whose mission is to raise awareness of Rabat’s cultural heritage, organized this exhibition for the general public to facilitate understanding of the city’s world heritage and raise awareness of the importance of safeguarding it.

Particular emphasis is placed on the work of the Moroccan craftsman, custodian of a long tradition of decorative arts which has been expressed since the Almohad period until the modern era when a fusion of earlier traditions with the 20th century architecture.

On this occasion, the eight components forming the heritage of the city of Rabat inscribed on the World Heritage List, and highlighted as part of this urban exhibition, were presented to Princess Lalla Hasnaa.

Lalla Hasnaa then followed explanations by eight experts on each of these components. These are the new town of the 20th century, the Habous district of Diour Jamaa, the garden of botanical trials, the medina of Rabat, the ramparts and the Almohad gates, the Hassan mosque and the Mohammed V mausoleum, the Kasbah of the Oudayas and the archaeological site of Chellah.

Beyond the exhibition, the Foundation for the Safeguarding of the Cultural Heritage of Rabat offers to continue the visit of the city with podcasts, where well-known voices of public figures and experts from different generations tell regarding Rabat and its places of memory. , its history, its culture, restore their memories, deploying a collective memory never documented. Afterwards, the Princess posed for a souvenir photo with the eight experts, before Her Royal Highness received a presentation of the “Qisas Rbati” Foundation Podcast by Jihane Fadili, high school student and footballer for the Moroccan women’s team of the Youth football having won the Africa Cup.

She then went to Rue des Consuls, taking Rue El Marsa, to visit Foundouq Ben Aicha and Rue des Consuls.
