News agencies had withdrawn the photo
Several news agencies, including AFP, had retracted the official photo on Sunday because upon closer inspection it appeared to have been obviously doctored. The photo released by Kensington Palace on Sunday shows the Princess of Wales smiling while sitting on a garden chair with her three children George, Charlotte and Louis around her. Upon closer inspection, several inconsistencies become apparent: Princess Charlotte’s hair ends abruptly over her shoulder on one side and her left wrist is wider than her sleeve.
The family photo was the first official photo of Kate released by the royal family since her hospitalization in mid-January for abdominal surgery. Kensington Palace did not give an exact reason for the operation and said the princess would not resume her official duties until Easter. The long absence led to ongoing speculation regarding Kate’s health.
