The presence of Princess Kako of Japan, who was visiting Peru, on the occasion of the anniversary of the 150 years of diplomatic relations between both nations, has been capturing the attention of the local press, as well as the international one. However, a particular event during an event at the Peruvian Japanese Theater raised alerts in the Asian media, due to an act that they described as “unusual.”

Last Thursday, accompanied by her delegation, the representative of the Japanese imperial dynasty attended a concert held in the aforementioned amphitheater in Jesús María, where the Peruvian musician Lucho Quequezana performed; the same one that generated an “unexpected” reaction in Princess Kako, surprising her entourage and provoking the reaction of the Japanese media.

The surprising attitude for the Japanese press was nothing more than a display of friendly gestures expressed by Princess Kako, when she was moved by the music performed by Lucho Quequezana which, in the words of Emperor Naruhito’s own niece, is her father’s favorite music. . Her gestures of emotion contravened one of the most rigorous protocols of royalty.

During the artist’s presentation, Princess Kako enjoyed the music of “El Cóndor Pasa” and other memorable Peruvian melodies, showing her enthusiasm with movements and applause. After finishing the concert, Quequezana proposed performing an additional song, and Princess Kako delicately nodded her head to continue the show.

This action, “unscheduled” in the protocol, ended up surprising the attendees, who managed to turn the event into a warm and very lively place. For the representative of the imperial family, this concert was quite special, since it was the favorite music of her father, Prince Akishino, the first in the line of succession.

“We talked for a long time, and he told me that he grew up listening to my music, since his father always tuned in to it. In addition, she asked me to inform her regarding my upcoming concert in Japan so that she and her family might attend,” Lucho Quequezana told the press on her behalf.

This would not be the first meeting between Princess Kako and the national musician, according to the Japanese television network ANN News. A first meeting took place in 2014, following Prince Akishino’s visit to Peru.

After returning to his country, Akishino took with him a Lucho Quequezana album that he listened to in his home and vehicle. In addition, the Peruvian musician gave him a “charango,” an instrument with which he was fascinated.

When Quequezana performed a concert in Japan in the summer of that year, the entire family, including Princess Yoshiko and her older sister Mako, attended, hoping that their daughters would appreciate the performance. After the concert, Prince Akishino personally expressed to Quequezana: “I listen to Lucho’s music both at home and in the car.”

“It was exciting and an honor for me to remember the affection that the imperial family has for my music. The princess greatly enjoyed the concert once once more and showed me a photo from nine years ago with the instruments that I gave to her father, Crown Prince Akishino,” added the Peruvian musician.

Kako is the daughter of Prince Akishino and niece of the current Emperor of Japan, Naruhito. Her role took a turn in the history of the Japanese dynasty by taking the place of her older sister, Mako; she who stopped having the noble title when she married the former bank employee. The princess arrived in Peru on the occasion of the anniversary of the 150 years of diplomatic relations between both nations.
