Prince William has shared an encouraging update regarding the health of the Princess of Wales, affectionately describing her as “amazing” during a recent public appearance.
Ahead of tonight’s highly anticipated Earthshot Prize awards taking place in Cape Town, the prince was inquired about how his wife Kate is faring. He responded warmly, saying: “She’s doing really well thanks. Hopefully, she’s watching tonight and cheering me on.”
Reflecting on the past year, he emphasized, “She’s been amazing this whole year and I know she’ll be really keen to see tonight be a success.”
In March, Kate courageously revealed that she was undergoing preventative chemotherapy following the discovery of pre-cancerous cells, a significant health concern that raised public awareness.
In a reassuring announcement made in September, she shared with the world that she had successfully completed her treatment and expressed her commitment to “staying cancer free” as she moves forward.
Despite the challenges, Prince William has maintained a focus on his public responsibilities, opting not to discuss his wife’s diagnosis while continuing with his own duties.
William responded to questions after participating in rehearsals for tonight’s prestigious Earthshot Awards, the environmental initiative he proudly launched in 2021 aimed at fostering optimism in the ongoing climate crisis debate.
Since arriving in Cape Town, he has been seen wearing a sentimental bracelet engraved with the word ‘papa’, a charming gift from his daughter, Princess Charlotte, representing a personal connection to his family.
He explained, with warmth, “This is a relic from a Taylor Swift concert that my daughter decided that she wanted to create a bracelet for, and she gave it to me when I came away so I’ve promised her that I’d wear it and try not to lose it while I was out here.”
In his commitment to environmental education, he also emphasized the importance of involving his three children in discussions about sustainability, fostering a sense of responsibility at home.
The prince elaborated on his family’s efforts, stating: “Every family tries to do what they can to help with the environment and we go through the basics of recycling and making sure we minimise water use, turning lights off when you leave the house. We’re sensible with what we do around the environment. I think every family has those conversations.”
He added, “The Earthshot is trying to be more global than that – we’re trying to do big-scale ambition and business. I’ve brought the children along on that journey, and I hope they’re proud of what we are trying to do here which is to galvanise that energy and enthusiasm to make real impact.”
When asked about the present political climate regarding environmental issues, Prince William refrained from commenting on the US election result and Donald Trump’s stance on climate policy. Instead, he highlighted the collective desire for hope, stating: “Everyone wants some hope and some optimism and Earthshot comes with urgent optimism.”
He continued, “And as you’ll see tonight, the amount of youth from Africa who will be in here – they’ll be letting you know and letting everyone know that it matters to them.” He expressed urgency regarding their inclusion in environmental initiatives, remarking that “without them, the future is looking pretty bleak.” He further encouraged that “these are the game changers, the innovators, the inventors who are going to make the world a better place for us in future.”
The annual Earthshot Prize awards five deserving entrepreneurs, innovators, startups, or conservationists with a substantial prize of £1m each to assist in scaling their impactful ideas aimed at addressing some of the world’s most pressing environmental challenges.
This year marks the fourth consecutive year that these significant awards have been held, underscoring its growing importance in the fight for a sustainable future.

**Moderator:** Welcome, Jane! Thank you for joining us today to discuss recent updates regarding Prince William and the upcoming Earthshot Prize awards.
**Jane Foster:** Thank you for having me! It’s great to be here.
**Moderator:** Let’s start with the good news about Kate, the Princess of Wales. Prince William recently shared that she’s doing well after her treatment. What are your thoughts on how public figures like William handle personal health matters in the spotlight?
**Jane Foster:** It’s a delicate balance, isn’t it? Prince William has been commendably supportive while also maintaining a sense of privacy for Kate. This approach often resonates with the public, as it reflects both compassion and personal boundaries. By keeping the focus on their family and their initiatives, they set a positive example.
**Moderator:** Absolutely. And with tonight’s Earthshot Prize awards approaching, it’s clear that environmental issues are very close to Prince William’s heart. Can you tell us more about the significance of this initiative?
**Jane Foster:** The Earthshot Prize is particularly exciting because it not only highlights innovative solutions to pressing environmental challenges but also inspires optimism. In a time when climate change discussions can often feel hopeless, this initiative chooses to spotlight practical solutions and creativity. It’s a brilliant way to engage a global audience.
**Moderator:** He’s certainly passionate about sustainability and has involved his children in these discussions, as he mentioned. How do you think this family commitment impacts the broader conversation about environmental responsibility?
**Jane Foster:** Involving children in sustainability discussions is crucial. It plants the seeds of awareness and responsibility from a young age, which can lead to generational change. When prominent figures like Prince William set this example, it encourages other families to do the same, fostering a culture of accountability towards the environment.
**Moderator:** It seems like William also carries a personal touch with him, showcasing a bracelet from his daughter. How important do you think these personal gestures are for public figures?
**Jane Foster:** Those personal gestures humanize public figures. They remind us that despite their status, they have intimate family connections and values just like everyone else. It’s heartwarming to see that blend of duty and personal life, and it likely endears them even more to the public.
