Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is a great game that made the golden hours of the consoles PS2, Xbox et GameCube by achieving the feat of restoring in 3D, the magic and majesty of the founding title developed by Jordan Mechner (alone in his garage, according to legend) at the end of the 80s… It’s a cult title that we’re looking forward to finding on our consoles thanks to a remake (and not a remaster) made with the same graphics engine as the games Assassin’s Creed. However, if one might think that this remake was for Ubisoft a way to make easy money by bringing up to date, an undeniable hit in its catalog, since its announcement in 2020 the title accumulates the disappointments – testifies to it, the game’s Twitter account which aligns the releases.
Originally planned for January 2021, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake first saw its release shifted to mars 2021, officially following the problems linked to the health crisis. But, fairly soon following that, the release of the game was once once more postponed with, this time, in sight, fiscal year 2023. It must be said that in the meantime, the remake has changed hands. Initially entrusted to the Indian studios of Ubisoft, Ubisoft Pune et Ubisoft Mumbaithe remake was suddenly entrusted to Ubisoft Montréal. But be careful, don’t think there is a problem. Ubisoft affirms it: everything is fine. Only, in a statement made to the site IGN, Ubisoft nevertheless specifies that Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake no longer targets a release during the current fiscal year. And besides, he no longer has an exit window. At least like this, it will prevent the game from being postponed once more.
The remake is not, therefore, officially canceled but it will, a priori, have to be patient before being able to discover it. At the same time, we imagine that it’s for the best… In the meantime, Ubisoft invites those who have pre-ordered the title and wish to cancel it, to contact their retailer in order to be reimbursed. Note that officially, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is not planned on Nintendo Switch even if a version Switch of the game has been spotted several times on various sites, starting with that of Ubisoft.
Pending further details, find below Ubisoft’s statement to IGN :
The development of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake will now be led by Ubisoft Montreal. We are proud of the work done by Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai, and Ubisoft Montreal will benefit from their learnings as the new team continues the work to deliver an excellent remake.
As a result, we are no longer targeting a release in fiscal year 2023 and the game has been removed from the release schedule. If players wish to cancel their pre-order, they are encouraged to contact their retailer. They will be updated on the project as development progresses.
