The return of Prince of Persia divides. Announced during the Summer Game Fest, The Lost Crown marks the return of the famous license following 13 years of absence and the game the Sands of Time. For the occasion, Ubisoft returns with a new artistic direction and a 2.5D software. Only, the fans are not necessarily delighted. On the chain YouTube from Ubisoft, the trailer garnered around 6,300 positive reviews, compared to 24,000 negative reviews. Can’t wait for it to come out on PlayStation 2 said Srm3101 Gaming, who calls the game basic, in the comments.

Some reviews focus on the trailer itself. It is in particular the song used for the trailer which is pointed out, some accusing it of not transcribing the atmosphere of the game. It should however be kept in mind that the atmosphere shown through this trailer is not not representative of that of the software: the studio revealed that it had collaborated with Gareth Coker. A composer known for his work on Ori and the Blind Forest and Ori and the Will of the Wisps, games recognized (among others) for their music.

Prince of Persia without Persia

Many critics report an atmosphere that strays too far from previous episodes. Part of the criticism is aimed in particular at the main character: Sargon, a warrior who aims to save Prince Ghassan. This new protagonist is very different from Dassan, the hero of The Sands of Time (one of the most popular in the saga). “It has nothing to do with Prince of Persia, it is probably the resurrection then the murder of a license the fastest in history” can we read in the comments. However, despite this mixed reception, other fans of the license are delighted with this return. Some have expressed their joy at seeing side gameplay, more faithful to the first episode of 1989, as reported by the media video game chronicle. On the side of Ubisoft, the publisher plans to show more images of Lost Crown during the Ubisoft Forward and to release the game on Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series, Xbox One PC, PS4 and PS5 on January 18, 2024.
