Prince Harry paid tribute to his ‘forever bond’ with his mother Princess Diana while he accepted the Pat Tillman award, managing to move those present with Meghan Markle by his side.

Prince Harry often speaks publicly regarding his mother, Princess Diana, with him making a very tender reference to her during his award ceremony with Meghan Markle by his side.

Specifically, Prince Harry accepted an award at the ESPY Awards named following her son Pat Tillman, even though she herself was initially once morest the decision for him to receive this award.

The Pat Tillman Award is named following the iconic NFL player and late US Army Ranger who gave up his athletic career to join the military following 9/11 before his death in Afghanistan in 2004.

The Duke of Sussex with absolute respect and careful words mentioned among other things that he completely respects her attitude and her effort to protect her son’s “legacy”, while at the same time he spoke regarding the eternal bond between a mother and her son.

After extending an olive branch to Tillman’s mother Mary, who was not at the event, and noting his “respect” for championing her son’s memory, Prince Harry applauded the sacrifice of wounded veterans and praised the Invictus Games in his speech.

“Her effort to protect Pat’s legacy is deeply personal and I respect that,” he said, referring to the fallen soldier’s mother. “The bond between mother and son is eternal and transcends even the greatest losses.”

The reactions

The Duke of Sussex’s nomination sparked a backlash as the award was usually given by unseen veterans, with Mary Tillman telling the Mail last month she was “shocked” that the award named following her son would go to “such a controversial and divisive figure”.

“There are recipients who are much more appropriate,” said Mary Tillman. “These individuals do not have the money, resources, connections or privileges that Prince Harry has.”

Meghan Markle, on the other hand, beamed with pride as Prince Harry accepted the prestigious military honor and used his time on stage to pay tribute to wounded veterans.

“I’m not standing here as Prince Harry, recipient of the Pat Tillman Award, but rather as a voice on behalf of the Invictus Games Foundation and the thousands of veterans and service personnel from more than 20 countries who have made the Invictus Games a reality. This award belongs to them, not me,” he said.
