Prince Harry revealed that he spent the first 11 years following the death of his mother, Princess Diana, believing that she was alive, and that her death was a “hoax”.
And the 38-year-old Duke of Sussex said, during a 60-minute interview with Anderson Cooper, yesterday, Sunday: “For a long time, I just refused to accept her departure, part of me was saying that she would never do this to us. Maybe it all felt like part of a plan. For some time I thought she was alive and would call us, and we would go and join her.”
“I had an enormous amount of hope,” he added. “Her passing left a huge hole in me at such a young age.”
Prince Harry continued: “I was mainly looking for evidence that she was in the car. Evidence of her injury and proof that the photographers who chased her into the tunnel were the ones who were taking pictures of her as she lay half dead in the back of the car. The images showed a reflection of a group of photographers taking pictures through the window, and only their image was on the reflection of the window.
He indicated that he was grateful to his private secretary and advisor for not allowing him to see the “most horrific” pictures, explaining that “all I saw was that my mother’s head fell on the back seat. I will forever be grateful to my counselor for denying me the ability to inflict pain on myself by seeing this. Because these things stay in your mind forever.”
