“The Grand Duke and Grand Duchess are delighted to announce that the Hereditary Grand Duke and Hereditary Grand Duchess are expecting their second child. The birth date is set for April,” the couple said in a statement.
Luxembourg Prime Minister Xavier Bettel tweeted congratulating the couple, saying: “On behalf of the Government, I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to the hereditary Grand Duke and Hereditary Grand Duchess on the announcement of the expectation of their second child.”
Little Prince Charles and his role in royal life
Although Charles is still quite a young prince, he is already deeply involved in royal life. He joined his parents in many engagements, such as celebrating the country’s national day and appeared in the family Christmas photo last year.
Prince Guillaume spoke to the media outside the Grand Duchess Charlotte Maternity Hospital in Luxembourg regarding the wonderful day of his son’s birth, noting that they – as royals – were excited to share their joy with everyone. “Birth is a message of hope. It is a blessing,” he said. “I think that is what we are very happy to be able to share with our people in Luxembourg and also across the borders with all the different countries.”
Since his birth during the COVID-19 pandemic, Charles has met his grandparents, Grand Duke Henry and Grand Duchess Maria Theresa in a very modern way: through a video chat.
Princess Stephanie, 38, and Prince Guillaume, 40, married in October 2012 following more than two years of dating, in a ceremony attended by royals from around the world.
