A.A. Nemtheanga

It certainly sounds like Primordial, there is no doubt regarding that, we have our own style and this is a new chapter of the same book. If we have done anything new it’s really to work with more conviction than ever, and trust more than ever our instincts.[/su_quot]

The Irishman Alan Averill aka AA Nemtheanga and his gentlemen have been from PRIMORDIAL in the business and have become an integral part of the metal world since their breakthrough with “To The Nameless Death”. It may be that the legend now needs a little longer to bring new music into the world – “Exile Amongs The Ruins” was five years ago now – but the wait has always been worth it.

But the singer, who was approaching 50, was anything but lazy and in the meantime released an album each with his doom group DREAD SOVEREIGN, with the newly founded black/deathers VERMINOUS SERPENT and the international psychedelic black/ambient project THE NEST.

But now to the latest PRIMORDIAL work and the associated question or, in the absence of a question mark, Alan may have the answer – “How It Ends”. As with every work by the Irish black/pagan metallers, who can hardly write a song under seven minutes, this is once more a real and damn intense grower. Nothing for the side. The listener is captivated once more and once more with hypnotizing monotony, but includes enough variety and surprises to keep even those who don’t like long track tracks happy.

“All Against All” later brings out the pure Black Metal voice and comes out of the speakers in a more crusty, raucous way, “Call To Cerunnos” relies on lulling rhythms and a few more melodies and “Pilgrimage To The World’s End” stands out also classic heavy metal meets doom. Most of the time, Averill’s pleading and extremely urgent voice reigns supreme here, but as already described, the man can also do something different and offers the full range between doom, black, death and heavy metal over the course of an hour. And so you can just hear the pain and anger coming from his soul in various historical and modern lyrics.

Things get fast and hectic in “We Shall Not Server” and although the title track is at the beginning, I deliberately mention it at the end because it stands out alongside the pathetic single “Victory Has 1000 Fathers, Defat Is An Orphan” that has already been released Playing tip and typical band anthem presented.

“How It Ends” takes a lot of time, but it’s worth it, as long-time fans of the band know. I can’t say exactly where the album fits into PRIMORDIAL’s extremely strong discography, but it’s definitely in the top third.
