Prime: what you need to know before transferring your account to Belgium

The arrival of Amazon in Belgium is synonymous with more advantageous rates for Prime subscribers. To benefit from this new rate, however, you will have to transfer your account. Explanations.

Belgian Prime subscribers who had this paid formula in France were billed €49.9 per year until recently. In France, however, Amazon has announced a price increase. From now on, the annual subscription is billed at €69.9. In Belgium, it will be necessary to count on a rate of 2.99€/month or 25€/year. It may therefore be tempting to repatriate his Prime account to Amazon.com.be. But how exactly?

How to transfer your account to Belgium

Go to Amazon.com.be and click on the “Try Prime for free” button at the top right of the screen.

Then click on the “Start your 30-day free trial” button and identify yourself in the next window with your Amazon credentials, which you usually use on Amazon.fr.

Your Prime subscription will be automatically canceled in France and repatriated to Belgium.

What to know before making the transition

By subscribing to Prime in Belgium and abandoning the French subscription formula, you will lose access to certain Prime advantages:

  • access to the 2 million titles included with the premium plan in Amazon Music
  • unlimited access to Prime Reading and its ebooks

Be careful, you will also lose the following items:

  • your order history
  • your product lists
  • access to Amazon Music Unlimited (paid)
  • access to Kindle
  • access to all your digital book purchases

As you will have understood, the transition is not smooth.

A solution: you can have two accounts

If you had bought Kindle books on Amazon.fr, nothing prevents you from keeping your French account and canceling your Prime subscription, to create a Prime subscription in Belgium with a new account and thus benefit from a more advantageous price for the access to Prime Video. This will keep you accessing your eBooks, the Kindle Store, and your order history.

The Belgian offer is particularly interesting if your Prime account was mainly used to access the video streaming catalog or cloud storage.

The reinstatement of the subscription in France is possible

If you were in a hurry to switch to the Belgian offer as soon as it was announced, nothing prevents you from canceling the transfer by contacting Amazon’s following-sales service. Several of our readers have confirmed that it is possible. In which case your Kindle library is a priori restored.
