The Caribbean country is experiencing a security crisis, which has worsened in recent weeks. Henry’s departure was announced by Irfaan Ali, current President of Guyana and the Caribbean Community.
The Prime Minister of Haiti, Ariel Henry, resigned from his position on Monday night (11). The decision was announced, according to G1, by Irfaan Ali, president of Guyana and current leader of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), of which Haiti is part.
Irfaan Ali announced Henry’s resignation during a press conference following the CARICOM meeting on Haiti, which took place in Jamaica.
“We acknowledge the resignation, following the establishment of a transitional presidential council and the appointment of an interim prime minister,” said Irfaan Ali.
The Guyana president stated that the Caribbean Community and other international entities have committed to collaborating with the peaceful transition of power in Haiti.
On March 3, armed gangs invaded two prisons in Port-au-Prince, freed more than 3,000 prisoners and killed guards and police officers.
In return, the Haitian government declared a state of emergency in the country. Both the state of emergency and the curfew were initially decreed for a month.
