Primary Election Negotiations: Democratic Opposition, Maduro Government, and the United States

Journalist Vladimir Villegas reported this Thursday that the issue of the Primary is now the agenda of the negotiation between the Maduro Government, the democratic opposition and the United States; and he highlighted that Democratic Action proposed that the October 22 election have the technical assistance of the CNE, which would change some things.

In a message on his “The issue is discussed in the Electoral Branch.”

He stressed that the disqualifications would be an obstacle for the CNE to participate, so this should be resolved “even if only partially.”

“If the CNE supports or organizes, the number of voting centers would increase to at least 8 thousand, but the date would have to be moved one month”; that is, until November.

Villegas emphasized that it is urgent for the opposition to define a replacement mechanism if the Primary is won by a disqualified candidate and added “with or without CNE, that decision must be made as soon as possible, no matter how traumatic it may be. Waiting for the day of the consultation without having that clear would be suicidal.

«The panorama of the primaries looks complicated, due to logistical and technical issues; and for the political calculations that, naturally, are never lacking.
