Primaries called for 6.19 percent of the electoral roll – La Discusión 2024-07-05 00:44:05

The primary elections for mayors and governors ended this Sunday with almost 300 thousand votes cast nationwide, representing the participation of only 6.19% of the 4.8 million voters called.

In 99.5% of the polling stations counted for the municipal primaries, the total vote is estimated at 295,379 votes.

This number is considerably reduced in the case of the candidates for governor, who were elected only in the regions of Coquimbo and Aysén, and whose votes reached 31,414 votes, with 98.5% of the tables counted.

The last mayoral primary, held in the midst of the pandemic in 2020, achieved a turnout of 4.37%; this corresponded to 147,681 voters.

The previous gubernatorial primary, also held in 2020, had a turnout of 2.87%, with 415,079 votes.

Chile Vamos, formed by the UDI, RN, Evópoli and IND, obtained almost 96 thousand votes, according to information from Servel with 92.24 percent of the tables counted.

With this data, it can be defined that Renovación Nacional is the party of the most voted block with 20,368 votes and 21.22 percent of the votes of Chile Vamos.

It is followed by the UDI with 14.32 percent and Evópoli with 3.03 percent.

The independents, supported by Chile Vamos, obtained 61.42 percent of the votes during the day.

The president of the Socialist Party, Senator Paulina Vodanovic, once again criticised Servel this Sunday for the lack of dissemination of information on the municipal primaries minutes before the closing of the polling stations, pointing out that “there is a serious failure” on the part of the electoral body.

“I find it regrettable that in a state election, which is not a voluntary election by the parties – as it is provided for in the law on political parties – (…) there was not even a sign (outside the premises)”, accused the official leader when approached by the press.
