Colombian priest was wrong in a word and dozens of baptisms were declared invalid

The Colombian priest, Andrés Arango, who served for several years as a parish priest in Phoenix, United States, became news because for using for 25 years an incorrect formulation of words at the time of baptizing thousands of parishionersnow those who participated in these ceremonies had the sacrament invalidated, this by decision of the Vatican.

According to the international media, the phrase he used was: “We baptized you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” But the correct form was “I baptize you.” Although this seems like a small mistake for the church, it has a connotation that affects the entire process.

Bishop Thomas Olmsted of the Diocese of Phoenix explained to CNN that: “the problem of using us”, implies that “it is not the community that baptizes a person, but rather it is Christ, and He alone, who presides over all the sacraments, so it is Christ Jesus who baptizes”.

Now, the church is trying to find a solution for its followers, because as baptism is the first sacrament, this might cause those affected to have to go through all the processes (communion, confirmation and even marriage).
