While on QUB radio for an interview on Sophie Durocher’s show, the general manager of Pride Montreal made a statement that startled the host. Asked regarding the presence of police at the August parade, Simon Gamache simply replied that there would be none.

We are talking here regarding police officers who are members of the LGBTQ community who would like to participate in the parade in uniform, not those providing security.

“You are discriminating, exclaimed the host. You tell the police that we would like them better if they were not police officers.

Mr. Gamache tried to moderate this assertion.

According to him, the decision was made due to tensions between law enforcement and some groups in the community. An explanation that did not at all satisfy Sophie Durocher.

“Do the cops of 2023 have to pay for the cops of 1970?” asked the host.

Simon Gamache said he was in discussion with the SPVM. He also described the exchanges as “interesting dialogue”. One thing is certain, he remains camped, for the moment, on his position. LGBTQ police officers in uniform, don’t look for them in the parade, there won’t be any.
