While since January 1 the cumulative rebates from the State and TotalEnergies have ended, gasoline prices are starting to rise once more at service stations.

The double penalty for motorists? The transition to the new year also marked the end of the discounts at the pump applied by the State and TotalEnergies, since April 1st. First of a respective value of 30 and 20 cents from each of the entities, the rebates were reduced to 10 cents each.

Prices therefore go up by 20 cents at TotalEnergies stations and by 10 cents at all the others. But according to Challenges, consumers also face an increase and prices similar to those experienced at the end of March. Thus, compared to December 30, prices would have increased by around 11 cents for diesel and 13 cents for Superethanol E85, specifies the specialized magazine.

Help, but not for everyone

However, not all users will be totally abandoned. On December 7, Élisabeth Borne announced the establishment of a fuel allowance of 100 euros for the year 2023. But this operation will only apply to “the most modest workers”, can we read on the Government website. 50% of the poorest households will therefore be able to benefit from it, “who need their vehicle to get to their place of work”. In other words, these are people whose annual taxable income is less than or equal to 14,700 euros. Nearly 10 million French people would be affected by this compensation.
