All internet box subscriptions increase
Current inflation affects almost every aspect of our daily lives, and the telecommunications sector is no exception. In October 2023, around 20 million French people have a fiber subscription. A study carried out by ZoneADSL&Fibrehighlights average growth in prices for Internet box subscriptions of 3.5%. RED by SFR stands out with the largest increase: +60 euros annually, which represents an increase of 21.7% for the year 2023 alone. Bouygues Telecom follows with +18 euros, then Orange with +12 euros. This upward trend also concerns low-cost offers, like Sosh which announces an increase of almost 5%.
The telecoms regulator, Arcep, confirmed this upward trend. According to an October 5 report, the “average consumer bill for the use of high-speed or very high-speed Internet access amounts to 34.5 euros excluding tax per month ». Since 2020, progress has been constant. In 2023, it even climbed to “90 cents (excluding taxes) in the first quarter” et “1.2 euros in the second quarter”.
RED by SFR, the cheapest despite a higher increase
If all operators have opted to increase the price of their internet box subscription, some maintain their competitiveness. Concerning pricing, Orange and Free remain in the lead with 46 euros/month and 42 euros/month, followed by Bouygues Telecom and SFR around 38 euros/month in September 2023. The offers from Sosh and RED by SFR remain the most accessible to 29 euros/month and 28 euros/month respectively. As recalled ZoneADSL&Fibredespite its increase of more than 21%, over the year 2023, the supply box internet « RED by SFR remains the least expensive operator on the market ».
Still according to the ZoneADSL&Fibre study, operators offering low-cost offers see their prices increase more than premium offers: +5% on average compared to 0.5% for high-end offers. If telecom operators offer offers for all budgets, low-cost subscriptions are gradually getting closer to the prices of their competitors without impacting their attractiveness: almost a third of French people plan to leave their current operator in order to obtain lower prices. attractive. However, with persistent inflation and the increase in the number of subscriptions, these increases in the price of internet box subscriptions will probably not be the last.
