He dollar closed Friday’s session with profit. The US currency and the broader market were affected following the release of US Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) price index figures, which showed more moderation than expected.
On Friday, the Commerce Department released PCE data, the Federal Reserve’s favorite indicator for making decisions regarding the future of monetary policy. Excluding food and energy, the PCE rose 0.3%, below the experts’ estimatewhich placed it at 0.4%. On a 12-month basis, core PCE increased 4.6%, a slight slowdown from the January level.
Including food and energy, headline PCE increased 0.3% monthly and 5% annually. This slowdown suggests that the Federal Reserve may be close to ending its most aggressive cycle of interest rate hikes in decades.
This month, the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) raised the target range for the federal funds rate by 25 basis points, raising it to 4.75 to 5 percent. Meanwhile, and although there have been no new banking turbulences, the market remains cautious and awaits new increases from the Fed.
