PRI approves reform with which Alito Moreno would extend his administration until 2024

The PRI National Political Council tonight approved a reform to the party’s statutes so that it has the power to approve the extension of the national presidency of Alejandro Moreno Cardenas until the electoral process of 2024 concludes, in which the President of the Republic will be elected and the Congress of the Union will be renewed.

For the second consecutive occasion, without calling a National Assembly, AAlejandro Moreno proposed 52 modifications to the party’s statutesincluding modifying the legal term so that the National Council itself can extend its mandate.

WE RECOMMEND YOU: Who is Alejandro ‘Alito’ Moreno, national leader of the PRI?

Currently, the PRI statutes establish that the The National Council has the power to “determine the extension of the statutory period of the national leadership in cases where the renewal concurs with an electoral process or within the three months prior to it”; that is, if the electoral process began in September of the year prior to the elections, on August 18, 2023, the date on which Alejandro Moreno’s term as head of the national PRI ends, it would enter that three-month period.

But Plan B of the electoral reform moved the start of the electoral process to the third week of November of a year prior to the federal elections; that is, no later than November 17, 2023, with which August 18, 2023 falls outside the three months established by the PRI statutes.

Thus, tonight the National Political Council changed “three months” to “ninety business days”, with which August 18, 2023 falls within that new term and, therefore, the period of the national leadership of Moreno Cárdenas can be extended.

On June 14, when various former national presidents of the PRI requested his resignation, as a consequence of the PRI electoral defeat of 2021, Alejandro Moreno promised them that he would not stay in the party beyond August 18, 2023. because for that period he was elected, as Dulce María Sauri reported at the time, although tonight the statutory reform opens the way to facilitate his stay in the national leadership.

From your social media account the former national president of the PRI, Claudia Ruiz Massieu, wrote: “You told us @alitomoreno that you would not stay in the leadership of @PRI_Nacional beyond August 19, 2023. Are you going to comply? And he recalled that “the basis for the national PRI to recover the trust of the people is consistency. You cannot offer inclusion on the one hand and promote reforms tailored to @alitomoreno on the other. Let us respect the plural, democratic and inclusive vocation of the PRI to guarantee unity”.

While, the coordinator of the PRI senators, Miguel Ángel Osorio Chong, announced that he will challenge this reform to the statutes and called on the PRI members “to raise their voices once morest this outrage. And that, all of us, we rescue and rebuild the PRI as the plural, democratic and open party that our country requires.
